Thus, if one is to give a synopsis of Joe Martinek it would sound something like this: White RB with incredible strength, speed and leaping ability. Now where have we seen this before?
"Joe has heard the comparisons to Brian Leonard, but he does have a different style" proclaimed Joe Martinek Sr.
Interestingly enough though, I watched Joe's film with a highly-regarded talent evaluator over this past weekend, and he asks me "I wonder what Leonard's high-school film was like"; what his thoughts were was clearly evident. I had the opportunity to see Brian Leonard in the Governor's Bowl 5-years ago, and the similarities then were quite apparent. Only difference now is that Leonard became a monster in the weight room, and with time in the Rutgers program, he has become one of the more famed college football players in all the land.
Another similarity to Leonard is they both come from obscure places.
"I don't understand why his recruitment has not taken off more. You see his film and he dominates kids. I try to be unbiased with these statements, but his film is awesome and he has been doing this for the past 3-years. I have to imagine that if he were at Don Bosco Prep or one of these more noticeable schools, he would have a lot of more offers. I can only perceive it that being out here in Western NJ, recruiters may not be so interested in coming out here since this is not a hot-bed for football talent, or they may not be able to project his abilities based on the competition. But I have full-confidence that based on his character and talents, he will be an elite player at the next level" stated Joe Sr.
As of now, Martinek holds an offer from his home state school - Rutgers.
"Joe just loves those guys. Coach Susan and Schiano have really valued
him as a person and let it be known that he would play a role in the continued
success of that program. He really does like Rutgers. But he needs to see his
options. A lot of schools have been inquiring about him and requested film,
schools such as Maryland, Kansas State, and Kentucky as of recently. We have
also heard that Stanford and Duke are interested. But no one else has pulled
the trigger with another offer. We believe though that with time more offers
will begin to roll-in. Ultimately, he needs to visit schools and eventually
decide where his best fit will be".
