DJ Cunningham

DJ Cunningham, 6-5, 205, 5.0, Hanover Park HS

Last year DJ Cunningham's honors were impressive. First Team All Conference, First Team All Area and Third Team Gannett All State. DJ's honors were well deserved. He is a versatile multi sport athlete who excelled on both offense and defense in football. On offense DJ played as a tight end and as a wide receiver. He produced. At those positions he caught 31 passes for 6 TDs and over 550 yards. On defense his stats were also impressive.  He had 2 blocked punts (including one taken in for a touchdown), 2 fumble recoveries, 6 sacks, 1 interceptions and over 35 tackles.

Early interest has come from Rutgers, Boston College, Syracuse, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Northwestern, Purdue along with several Ivy League schools. The most interest has come from Rutgers, Maryland and Florida. Early on his favorites are Rutgers, Boston College, Virginia, Maryland and the University of Pennsylvania from the Ivies.

Next week he'll be taking in the Boston College camp and later this summer he'll visit some of the schools who have gotten his interest. Although no firm plans have been made his trips will probably include Rutgers, Boston College and UConn.

In terms of making a decision DJ will be looking to get a good education, especially looking to schools that fill his requirements as to a major (perhaps physical therapy). After that he'll be looking at the location and size of the schools he visits. Location means not too close to home and a campus he likes. As to size he'd prefer a smaller school.

DJ told me that he'll probably make his decision some time during next football season. I'll be checking back with him later in the summer to find out more about his interest and his leans.
