One of the most intriguing prospects in the state of New Jersey this year is Wayne Thomas. For those who are not familiar with Wayne Thomas, he is a 6'6"-280lb DT from Nottingham H.S in New Jersey. As a junior, Thomas registered 9 1/2 sacks, force 2 fumbles, 12 tackles for loss, and has an interception return for 25 yards. His efforts assisted his team reaching the championship game for his division before eventually losing. As a result of the loss, Thomas has a burning desire to return to the state playoffs and state championship games.
Thomas' abilities have not escaped the notice of many of the top schools in the nation. Currently, he holds a scholarship offer from Rutgers with heavy interest from Syracuse, Miami, Louisville, Michigan, Florida, and Michigan State. Although it is early in the recruiting process, Thomas has named Rutgers as his favorite. The State University of New Jersey has attracted Thomas' favor because of its proximity to his home and his ability to make an impact on the program. Syracuse, Michigan State, and Florida are the rest of the programs on his favorites list.
Although Rutgers currently leads, Florida has a sentimental edge over the other schools. The Gators are a childhood favorite of the big DT. He said that "Florida was one of my favorite teams as a child, it would be a dream come through to play for them".
Even if the school is his dream school or not, Thomas will use three criteria to make a determination. He is looking for a school with a good academic reputation, a good athletic history or a school that is up and coming, and how that school will help him later in life. But each of his suitors will need to wait for Thomas to complete all five of his visits before making a decision.
Scout will be there each step of the way during his recruitment.Stay tuned because Thomas' recruitment will heat up as the recruiting season proceeds.
