Hes already visited a number of schools and plans to visit many more this spring and summer.
"I went to Virginia on Saturday (April 8) and I was at Rutgers last Wednesday (April 5), Elliott said.Ive also been to Notre Dame, Michigan, Ive visited Maryland twice and Rutgers three times. Im just going to hit some places I havent been to before. I think its important to see what all the schools are like.
Im pretty wide open right now. Im going to listen to what each school has to say and what it can offer me. Then, I'll sit down with all the information presented to me."
The list of schools Elliotts looking not only have outstanding academic reputations, but many have the finest football programs in the country. Elliott commented on what he likes about some of the schools hes researching.
Boston College: I know they have a great offensive line tradition there, Elliott said. I like that its within a close range of where I live, and I also know its a great school.
Clemson: I talked to the Clemson offensive line coach (Brad Scott) three times, and they have a great football tradition down there.
Maryland: I like the fact its four hours from where I live. Ive been down there quite a few times and I really like the atmosphere. I attended a football game on one trip and a basketball game on another--the atmosphere was great both times.
Michigan: Obviously, its a prestigious place and I got to see all of the facilities there. I really like the town thats around Michigan because they have a college town feel around there. Its just a fun place to be.
Rutgers: I like the fact theyre less than two hours away and the last time I was there, Coach (Greg)Schiano was basically talking to all of the recruits there. It was kind of an Elite Junior Day with us watching practice. He was talking about getting the best players from New York to go there, and I thought it would be a great situation if I was able to go there--I thought it was a great idea.
Virginia: Its fresh in my mind because I was down there on Wednesday and its an absolutely beautiful campus. I had a great time because I really got to know the coaches pretty well while I was there watching them practice. I spoke to Coach (Al)Groh and Coach (Dave) Borberly (running game coordinator) after practice, so I had a great time doing that.
West Virginia: I know theyre pre-season No. 1 and (Steve) Slaton/(Pat) White is a great combination to watch. They were my first offer and Im very much looking forward to going down there, finally."
Although Notre Dame and USC havent offered, both are schools he's interested in, particularly the Irish.
Notre Dame has a great tradition, its a great school, Elliott said. It was great getting the opportunity to visit and talk with Coach Weis. What hes done in his first year proves hes a great coach.
I spoke to Pete Carroll and the coach recruiting our area (Todd McNair) once before, and Ive been getting more mail from them lately. It was a good introduction speaking to them on the phone that one time. USC is a school Im interested in.
With a variety of outstanding schools to choose from, Elliott was asked what qualities hes looking for in a school.
I definitely want a school that balances academics with football really well, Elliott said. Id like to go to a school where we can compete for National Championships and get a good education.
