Dempsey Starts the Combine Tour in Fashion

John Dempsey, a 6'0 196 S/RB prospect from Cardinal O'Hara HS in Philadelphia, PA was one of the rising stars at the recent Scout.com All-American combine at Rutgers University. John not only tested well in the speed, agility and jumping drills, but also showcased his ability in the 1-on-1 drills.

"I was able to go up against some good offensive talent, kids like PJ Sheridan, and did well. On defense, I batted down several passes and the other ones thrown my way were incomplete," stated John Dempsey.

The only disappointment for John in terms of the combine was the lack of a strength station, where he felt he would have shined.

"I had been training very hard in the bench press and recently was able to put up 185-25 times. My strength is one of my greatest assets. I wish they would have had that as part of the combine," continued the Keystone State soon to be rising Senior.

On the field last year, John was hampered with ankle injury that kept him from participating in the first three games of the season. But as the season progressed, he was able to end up strong with 960 yards rushing on 145 carries. He also was a force on a defense highlighted by a 16-tackle performance in the Philadelphia Catholic School championship game against St Joe's Prep.

Thus far, John is most interested in Pitt, Rutgers, Penn St, Maryland, WVU, Notre Dame and Iowa. The news of his excellent performance at Scout.com landed him an invite at the upcoming Elite combine on May 1. He will also attend the Nike Camp on May 6.

"I just hope to perform well at these combines and show coaches that I have a passion for this game. I am hoping to obtain some scholarships and have an opportunity to play at the next level".

On Rutgers, Dempsey enthusiastically mentioned, "I love the facilities, they play good football, they present solid academic opportunities. All-in-all they are building something very solid there. Plus the location close to home is a plus. It would be good to be near family."

John does not know which camps he will attend this summer, but believes he will attend one day at the Rutgers camp.

"I need to see some camps and show that I can play. Also, I want to get a feel for some of the coaches and schools that I visit. In the end, I just want to see what offers I can gather by summer's end, plan my visits, and then search for the best fit".
