FL TE Likes Rutgers

At 6-foot-4 and 230-pounds Fabian Ruiz is rapidly shedding his sleeper status and becoming one of the TE prospects to keep close track of in the Sunshine State. While he plays his ball down south, in Florida (Sunset High School), Ruiz has a strong interest in a school from the Big East - Rutgers.

Sunset High School in Miami, Florida had coaches from Ohio, Akron, and Western Michigan attend 7-on-7 practice this afternoon in order to scout rising TE Fabian Ruiz.

Ruiz, who has been concerned that his school's anonymity (Sunset has not had a Division I prospect in 10 years) and lack of passing game would affect his recruitment, was surprised and pleased to find the impression he left on the Western Michigan coach.

"We had coaches from these 3 schools come in and watch our practice. Basically, they were able to see me run routes and catch the ball. At the end of practice, I got a call saying ‘I loved what we saw in you' and they offered a scholarship on the spot."

Ruiz has been also receiving regular interest from Pitt, UCLA and South Carolina. He was happy to disclose his relationship with Pitt's Aubrey Hill. "It is not that he texts me all the time, but that he texts me at the weirdest times. Last night, he text messaged me at 1AM saying that they want me up at Pitt. He is just a real mellow, chill guy. I like Aubrey."

Next up for Ruiz is the Scout.com All-American combine. "I hope to make a big impression this weekend. My body feels good from weight training in school and sharpening up my routes. Even though I have been doing a lot of running and working on speed, I have been able to keep my weight at the 230 range," stated Ruiz.

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Ruiz is interested in the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. Ruiz, who is of Cuban-American decent, has family in both NJ and Florida that like the Scarlet Knights.

"I have some family up in NJ and if Rutgers offered, it would be nice to be re-united with my family up there. Also, my uncle played football at UCF, and he thinks the world of Rutgers academically and really likes the progress they are making as a football program. He thinks Rutgers would be a wonderful fit for me as well".

Ruiz will be a player the Scarlet Knight coaches will be evaluating closely at the Miami Rutgers Camp in early June. He also has plans on camping at Boston College later on this summer.
