Werner re-opens recruitment

With the coaching changes down at North Carolina State, 6-8 forward New Jersey prospect Dan Werner from CBA has been granted an unconditional release from his letter of intent with NC State and is "back on the market". Now that Werner's recruitment has been re-opened, he is able to initiate contact with other schools and take official visits. SOR.com spoke to Werner to get the latest.

Dan Werner says he is still interested in attending NC State, but wants to "see what other options are open right now." Werner sat down with his family and high school coach Ed Wicelinski tonight to decide on his future and possible visits.

Currently, Dan has been in contact with Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Florida and Kentucky. He will be visiting Notre Dame later this week and Pitt the following week after that. Werner has also taken unofficial visits to St. John's and St. Joe's so far as well.

Werner is fairly interested in his state school, Rutgers, but will have to learn more about the Scarlet Knights' program before making a decision. "I don't really know much about the [RU] campus and stuff," he said. "But I'll be visiting to check things out there." Dan also notes he is familiar with new Rutgers coach Fred Hill and calls him a "great motivator".

Werner says he does not have a timetable set as to when he plans to make a decision. He wants to make sure he has enough time to make the right choice and does not want to rush himself through the process.

SOR.com will continue to keep in touch with Werner as he continues to make visits and come closer to making that decision later in the signing period.
