Miami: A rebuilt offensive line and secondary will be tested by non-league games at Tennessee and Florida, as well as by a visit from Florida State. In all, seven 2001 bowl teams are on the menu. The last four games are key: at Tennessee, vs. Pittsburgh, at Syracuse, vs. Virginia Tech.

Brandin Knight, the point guard who led Pittsburgh to a school-record 29 victories last season, had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this week. "Brandin just had a very tiny piece of cartilage removed that was causing him some discomfort in the back of his knee," Panthers coach Ben Howland said Friday.

A big jump in football TV income helped the Southeastern Conference take in more than $100 million last year to maintain its position as the richest college sports league.
The SEC's take from regular-season football games increased 38% to $49 million during the tax year that ended Aug. 31, according to Internal Revenue Service records reviewed by The Associated Press.
