Season ends at hands of Cards

Rutgers faced a daunting task coming into today, needing a sweep of third-seeded Louisville to advance to Saturday's Big East Tournament Championship. Instead, the Scarlet Knights were humbled by Louisville's bat-attack, as the Cardinals secured their 12th straight victory and advanced to play either top-ranked Notre Dame or St. John's (which square off later today).

The third-seeded Cardinals defeated Rutgers 13-3 and will play either #1 Notre Dame or # 4 St. John's on Saturday in the Big East's conference championship.

Rutgers' season draws to a close with a record of 29-28-1.

Louisville jumped on top early, scoring 4 runs in the first inning and took an 8-0 lead after 5 innings of play. Rutgers would get on the board in the 6th inning thanks to back to back singles by Jeff Grose (Iselin, NJ) and Todd Frazier (Toms River, NJ). Ryan Hill (Hillsdale, NJ) brought home Grose with a sacrifice fly, and Frazier would eventually score from second base on a Steve Hook (Langhorne, PA) groundout to the shortstop.

However, Louisville added 5 runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning, all but securing no second game between the two clubs later this afternoon.
