ABCD Camp: Notes From Day 3, 4

The Reebok ABCD camp has concluded and SOR wraps up its continuing coverage of the event with some final notes on the Rutgers prospects in attendance. Read on for recruiting updates on RU prospects Jamaine Peterson, Sylven Landesberg, as well as final analysis and statistics of the NY/NJ players, including Corey Chandler.

Recruiting Updates

Jamaine Peterson- The first prospect to check out on Saturday was Notre Dame Prep's Jamaine Peterson. The 6-6 small forward has decent ball handling skills and plays on the perimeter more than I thought he would. He likes to take guys off the dribble and make something happen near the hoop. We spoke to Peterson after his game and he feels that he has played "OK" in camp, telling us that he has been working on his outside game recently.

Currently, Peterson has the attention of a large number of schools, listing St. John's, Virginia, Memphis, Iowa State, Clemson, Georgetown, Arkansas and Rutgers. Jermaine has an offer from RU, but likes St. John's and Memphis the best (he has offers from those two schools as well).

Sylven Landesberg- We spoke to Landesberg after his 12 point, 5 rebound performance during his 2:30 game on Saturday. The rising sophomore is being recruited by a number of schools. He mentioned Louisville, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Georgetown, St. John's, Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Landesberg's play has picked up as the camp has gone on. After struggling the first two games, Sylven finished the camp averaging 8.9 points a game and 3.4 boards while shooting 43% from the field.

Player Evaluations and Statistics

Corey Chandler- Corey's stats were not exceptional (9ppg, 2.9 assists), but after watching him for four days, I can tell you that he has tremendous upside: he can blow past guys with a smooth crossover, but also find open players in a traditional half-court offense. As Jeff Goodman writes, "[Chandler] can do just about everything from the guard spot – score, pass, he's got quickness and also displayed the ability to pressure the ball." Chandler was named to the camp Senior All-Star team, along with the two other Coreys, Fisher and Stokes.

Zack Rosen- Although he wasn't highly regarded before the camp, Rosen played terrific basketball these past few days, putting up impressive numbers. The ABCD camp uses a player rating system to determine the top players at the camp based on pure stats, and Zack has the 2nd best rating among Jersey players (Greg Echenique had the best). Rosen has good point guard instincts and seems to find open players nicely. One thing he must improve, however, is his defense. Already undersized, Rosen needs to play better defensively in order to succeed at the next level. Nonetheless, his recruitment should pick up and he may have an offer by the end of the summer.

Greg Echenique- Only a rising sophomore at St. Benedict's, Echenique has played well. Listed as 6-9, 263, he has good size, above average speed and mobility for a big man. Greg rebounds well, finishing the camp among the leaders in boards with 6.4 a game.

Miles Beatty- Beatty had a very solid four days, showing us why he is attracting the attention of high-major programs. Miles led all New Jerseyans in scoring, including Corey Stokes with 11 points a game. Beatty had the benefit of playing alongside Zack Rosen, who was able to find him open for easy jump shots.
