ABCD Camp/Basketball Recruiting
SOR was on hand for all four days of the prestigious ABCD camp. We were able to talk with a number of Rutgers prospects, interview head coach Fred Hill, and evaluate the local players in attendance.
On Thursday, when the ABCD camp games started, SOR interviewed head coach Fred Hill, who was on hand for the first day of games. Hill talked about recruiting so far and answered specific questions on certain players on the current roster. A transcript of the interview can be found here: Part I and Part II.
On Friday, SOR presented a number of stories recapping the action on the first day of ABCD camp action. Check out pictures of the RU prospects in attendance, including Idris Hilliard and Corey Chandler. Also, make sure you read my notes and observations from Day 1 as I break down the performances of Corey, Idris and others. Mike Sullivan also had nice features on two local players who are interested in Rutgers. Sullivan interviewed Hun School prospect Idris Hilliard, who was impressive in his first run at the camp, and spoke to New York's Thomas Manzano who is starting to get noticed.
Day 2 of the ABCD camp produced another series of great content, beginning with my notes from Day 2. In addition, Sardonic caught up with Miles Beatty, from St. Anthony's. Beatty enjoyed a great camp, leading his team in scoring with 11 points a game. Scout.com's national recruiting analyst Jeff Goodman took in the games as well and recaps the performances of the top recruits.
Goodman was also at the camp for Day 3, in addition to traveling down to the Eastern Invitational All-Star game, where Justin Sofman was playing. Jeff writes up his notes on the action, and has positive things to say about both Corey Chandler and Sofman. Also on Day 3, Sardonic spoke with Devin Ebanks, the 5-star Patterson School (N.C.) player. Ebanks says he is open in his recruitment, with Rutgers in the mix.
On the final day of the ABCD camp, SOR caught up with a pair of RU prospects, Jamaine Peterson and Sylven Landesberg. See what schools are after them, the final player updates and statistics in my notes from Day 3 and 4.
On July 4th, Alex Hesquijarosa caught up with Willie Geter, the 5-8 160 pound cornerback from Miami. In this non-premium article, Geter's performance at the RU camp is reviewed and his top 5 is revealed.
On Thursday, Alex spoke with another promising prospect in Matt Guinn, from Columbus High School in Miami. The 5-11 wide reciever "showed some onions" at the recent Rutgers camp and has a favorite school. Corey James of Superprep.com also reports on Thursday that Rutgers is in the hunt for talented 4-star athlete Joe Haden, who is capable of playing a number of positions in college. Haden has over 30 offers with seven favorites and Rutgers is high on his list.
The next day, Scout.com's Bob Lichtenfels takes a mid-year look at the recruiting efforts of the Big East conference teams. Bob reports that RU has done very well so far, calling Joe Lefeged the star of the class, and naming Edwin Alvarez as the "sleeper".
Alum Cappie Pondexter is making Rutgers proud with her domination of the WNBA competition so far. Through July 6th, Cappie leads the league in scoring with 22.7 points a game. Now a member of the Phoenix Mercury, Pondexter was named an all-star for her great performance thus far.
