Focus '07: Immaculata OL

Ryan Bennett, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound offensive tackle from Immaculata High in Somerville, N.J. has made visits to Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and James Madison this summer and talked to about his experiences.

"There were over 60 college coaches at Boston College and it was extremely well run," Bennett said. "BC is a first-class program and they told me they're going to make a determination on me after reviewing film from my first two games this season. Before I left campus I ended up getting offers from Massachusetts, Northeastern and New Hampshire, so that was a great surprise."

"The campus itself had an old Ivy look to it, but also had brand new facilities. I just thought the trip there and the location itself was beautiful. I like the fact that Boston is so close because it's a really cool city."

"When I made the trip to Rutgers it was right after Boston College, so I didn't have any rest in between, but it's right in my backyard, so it wasn't a big deal. Coach [Kyle] Flood worked with me on my fundamentals, footwork and overall mechanics and was very helpful. They had some players from South Florida there and I thought I did a good job representing New Jersey. Before I left I was offered a scholarship by Towson."

"Virginia Tech was a great camp. I had just started to get handwritten letters from their coaching staff, so they're new in my recruiting picture. Blacksburg is beautiful and it's just a football town, so I was very impressed. Coach [Jim] Cavanaugh said I was at the top of their board after spending time working with me on my footwork and agility. He told me that I could definitely see an offer if they see an improvement in my pass protection during my first two games, so I've been working very hard on that aspect of my game since then."

Bennett was a first team All-Area, All-County and All-Conference selection as a junior for Immaculata.
