"Rutgers has been on me for quite some time now. Joe Susan is doing a good job of recruiting me. He is a good guy and he has an established relationship with my head coach".
Both Susan and the New Kensington Head Coach are natives of South River, New Jersey.
Toney is looking forward to visiting the New Brunswick campus, but he is not sure if he will make the trip this summer or during the season.
"If it were up to me, I would like to get out there soon. I am very interested in Rutgers. I was in New Jersey for the Elite Combine and I liked the area a lot. But it will be up to my coach and his schedule if we are to make it out there this summer".
At this point, Toney is open to all schools and claims no favorites. However, he states the only school he is certain to officially visit is Colorado.
"I have heard that Boulder is just a beautiful place. That is the one place I am set on taking an official to at this point".
Toney feels that several factors will weigh in his decision, such as the publicity he can receive from the school, the campus life, and a general feeling from the staff and players.
"Most every school recruiting me is going to provide me with strong academics. I also consider myself a competitor and am not concerned with playing time. I have faith in my abilities and feel I can go out and earn my playing time. But I will be looking at the intangibles, the general feel of the direction of the school. How I feel around my future teammates. Can the school generate national attention? Those are the things that interest me the most".
At the rate Rutgers is headed, the publicity will surely be there in the future, and certainly sooner rather than later. The most important question is - "Can they get this kid on campus?" If they do, there is a shot.
