Offer Update

Rutgers is still the only offer but Rick is expecting offers from  a number of schools. This summer he camped at LSU, Tulane, Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan. Rick had great showings at all of those schools and some of them have told him that they are looking to "scholarship" a place kicker and  he is first on his list.

Current leaders

Rutgers - "It is the state school of New Jersey. I liked junior day and I liked the coach. Coach Schiano is a great guy. I liked the players, I liked the facilities. My sister graduated from Rutgers and she liked it a lot. I think that the program is going to turn around. Coach Miello coached at my school till the end of my sophomore year. He is running football operations and he is a great guy."

Virginia - "I went to their junior day. I loved the campus,  the campus is beautiful. It is a great academic school. Coach Groh is a great coach he coached in the NFL and he has a great personality. I don't know their kicking situation but they were one of the first programs to show an interest."

LSU - "I went to camp a week and a half ago. I was 16 for 16 and a lot of my kickoffs went into the endzone. I liked the campus. I liked the climate. It is close to New Orleans and I really like that."

Tulane - "Same good location. I love New Orleans and I love the facilities. I love the head coach he has really turned the program around. I really had a good time there."

Indiana - "I talked to Matt Lovecchio. He put in a good word for Indiana at the beginning of the process. Indiana was already on my list I went out there and I loved the area."

Ohio State - "I went to Columbus a couple of months ago. I loved Ohio State. Coach Tressel is a great guy and they have a great program  and great facilities."

Days at camp

"I was kicking off the ground and that really impressed the coaches. In high school you kick off a two inch block. College coaches expect high school players to kick off a block but in camp I was kicking right off the ground just like they do in college and I could tell that was impressing the coaches.  I had a lot of 50 field goals and I kicked most all of my kickoffs into the endzone. I kicked a 52 yarder at Indiana. I was regularly hitting at 50 yards. My accuracy was good and I know that impressed a lot of the coaches."

Will he make and early decision or a late one?

"For me right now I want to make a commitment before the season begins. Rutgers is great choice for me but I want to get a couple more offers before I make a decision. I want to make sure that I make the right decision."

Last year Rick was:

Associated Press 3rd Team All-State (junior)

He is considered to be the top place kicker in the State of New Jersey and one of the tops in the nation.
