Q&A with 2007 commit Fabian Ruiz

SOR.com caught up with Rutgers commit Fabian Ruiz to discuss how his senior year is progressing. After a rough 0-2 start, the Ruiz led Sunset Knights are looking to make noise in Dade County. They have won their last game and hope to get on a roll as they year continues.

Fabian Ruiz pulled the trigger and committed to Rutgers earlier this summer, before he became a household name among Florida Tight Ends. Indeed, toward the conclusion of this past summer, Ruiz was named as the #50 overall player in the talent rich state of Florida according to Varsity Sports Media's Florida Football. The rankings, compiled by nationally respected Florida preps expert Larry Blustein, ranks state's top 333 players.

Below is SOR's one-on-one with one the Rutgers' future loyal sons.

SOR.com: We know you started the year with two tough losses. How would you say the season in general is going thus far?

Ruiz: We're getting better, this year is still a work in progress.

SOR.com: What is Sunset's current record and how is the team performing or jelling?

Ruiz: This friday we will more than likely be 2-2. Our team is getting to know each other better. We have alot of new guys contributing which makes it difficult to know how everyone plays with one another.

SOR.com: How have you played on the offensive and defensive side of the ball?

Ruiz: I have played fairly well and made plays when the team needs them most. But this is a team and I'm not going to ask for the ball in double coverage when our receivers are left open. I have been getting alot of attention from opposing defenses.

SOR.com: Have you followed Rutgers at all this season?

Ruiz: I was only able to see the Saturday game against Illinois, because the game against UNC was at the same time that we had a game. I see the team performing very well.

SOR.com: Have you been keeping in touch with Coach Demarest?

Ruiz: I spoke with Demo [Coach Demarest] and he told me he should be down sometime in September, so I should see him soon.

SOR.com: Any message to send to the RU fans?

Ruiz: I will be up there soon ... Until then ... go RU!
