I spoke to the mother and father of Mike Fladell and got this information on the big lineman from NYC who just gave a verbal commitment to the Scarlet Knights.
40 time: 5.4
HS: John Adams H.S.
Hometown: Howard Beach
Offensive tackle, no stats available.
DT 56 tackles, blocked 8 extra points and had two fumbles recoveries last year.
Second team All Queens. City champion in the indoor shotput, outdoor shotput and the discus.
Why did he choose Rutgers:
"He was recruited by Paul Ferraro and liked him but he was also impressed both by offensive line coach, Joe Susan and Coach Schiano. He mainly came to Rutgers because of the coaching staff. He felt very comfortable with the coaching staff. He felt that they would treat him like family."
Other schools recruiting Mike:
Syracuse, Michigan State, Georgia Tech
"He is a quick learner and is very coachable. He has a good attitude and works hard."
City champion in the indoor shotput, outdoor shotput and the discus. Captain of the track and field team and one of the captains of the football team. Got attention from the Ivys due to the fact that he is an honors student. According to his parents Greg Schiano was impressed by his agility and quickness in camp which was surprising for a player of his size. In a drill an opposing linemen was coming at him and cut away from Mike but Mike made a sensationally quick move to get position on the defender. Reportedly that was a major factor in earning a scholarship for Mike. Fladell is only 16 years old heading into his senior season.
