Manny Selects Rutgers Football

Manny Abreu (6-foot-4 and 235-pounds), by way of Union Hill HS (Union City, NJ), is a rare breed of player with tremendous athletic ability. Abreu plays a number of positions on both offense and defense for the Hilltoppers but will become a fearful addition for what is setting up to be one of the top young LB-ing corps in the east for years to come - for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

This evening, the Rutgers football program took another major step toward realizing the national championship aspirations that RU Head Football Coach Greg Schiano was so blunt about at the dawn of his tenure, as the Scarlet Knights landed a major blue-chip prospect in Manny Abreu.

Manny Abreu has decided to continue his education and play his collegiate ball at Rutgers University.

"I decided to attend Rutgers University," Abreu said. "I just felt real comfortable there. I think me an my family will be very comfortable there. I love my family and I need them close to help support me on and off the field. Rutgers is only 45 minutes away so that is what I wanted."

Abreu, a Union Hill HS standout, is the #6 ranked player in the state of New Jersey according to the StateofRutgers.com, and the top linebacker prospect in the Garden State. He is also a 4-star prospect (#9 nationally) according to Scout.com and becomes the 13th player to give Rutgers his verbal commitment for the current class.

Abreu, who received offers from many of the top programs around the nation, is an athletic prospect with impressive running ability that is able to cover lots of ground quickly. He has an unteachable nose for the ball, stays low on his tackles but perhaps his greatest attribute is his fluid lateral movement and quickness. Abreu also has an outstanding frame that will easily take on an additional 10-20 pounds of muscle.

SOR brings fans a set of senior highlight clips that showcase Abreu's impressibe ability.
