Omar Savage is perhaps the top defensive end in the State of New Jersey. In this article he talks about his interest in Rutgers after attending RU's Fan fest celebration

Omar Savage, 6-5, 230, 4.8, DE, Piscataway HS

Omar was on campus for the fan fest on Friday night so I gave him a call Saturday morning to talk about that and about his current interests and leans.

On his unofficial visit to Rutgers

"I liked it, it was really good. I am about to go back today to watch practice. I liked talking to the coaches and I liked how the fans were into what things were going on up there. That really impressed me."

Current leaders

"Rutgers is number one. I like the coaches. The program is on the rise. My other leaders are Maryland, West Virginia, Temple, Clemson. I really like the Maryland campus. I really like the campus and the town of College Park."

Last year Omar had 55 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 6 sacks, 12 tackles for losses and 1 pass knocked down. Recruiters note that his greatest strength is ability to get off the ball fast and beat the offensive linemen before they can set up. When I last talked to Omar he noted that Rutgers was recruiting him hard and he liked them at that time. Early in the summer Chris Melvin told me that Omar was a great talent and perhaps the top DE in the State of New Jersey.
