At 6'5"-265lbs with 4.8 speed, Matt Boyer is among the best uncommitted players in the state of New Jersey. He has the versatility to play either TE or DE on the collegiate level. Schools are recruiting him for both positions and he has no preference. Boyer holds scholarship offers from Connecticut, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Rutgers. Harvard and Princeton are also competing for Boyer's services.
Boyer wants to conclude his recruitment before National Signing Day. Therefore, Boyer has already completed visits to Connecticut and Wake Forest. Although he has three more trips to take, Wake Forest is currently his leader. He visited the ACC school for the game against Clemson, where the Demon Deacons fell just short of an upset. The campus and overall atmosphere really appealed to him along with the academic reputation of the school. The visit also allowed Boyer to bond with the players and coaches so much that he stated "it is a really good fit".
Although his visit to Wake Forest went well, he intends on taking his remaining three visits. Two schools that will most likely receive visits are Harvard and Northwestern. The academic reputation of the two schools are a big selling point for him. He likes the fact that both schools will provide him with great opportunities after his football career has concluded. Boyer stated that he will likely visit Northwestern during the weekend of December 1st with a visit to Harvard during the same month.
For his fifth visit, he is keeping his options open. One of the schools competing for his final visit is Rutgers. Coach Schiano along with the team's recent success has left a strong impression on him. Boyer stated that he might have visited Rutgers already but they do not host in season visits. Over the past year, the Scarlet Knights had hosted Boyer for a few unofficial visits allowing him to gain some familiarity with the campus. He will likely take another unofficial visit for the Louisville game on November 9th.
Boyer will attempt to make a decision during the month of December
Note: Boyer's High school is currently 4-1. To date, he has 40 tackles, 8 sacks on defense with 11 catches, 150 yards, and 2 TDs.
