Locker Room Report: Offense

Open up a paper these days and you'll have no problem finding Rutgers Football coverage. The media darlings and feel good story of 2006 have quietly risen to the top of the Big East. In SOR's continued coverage of the Scarlet Knight's most impressive victory - EVER - we bring you sights and sounds from Rutgers Football So. QB Mike Teel and Heisman Candidate Ray Rice.

Mike Teel made the big throws when it mattered. And perhaps the biggest of them all was his dumpoff to a seemingly uncovered Brian Leonard, who scampered, and scampered, forever it appeared. The gain gave Rutgers an opportunity to eat yards and clock, while positioning themselves for the Ito game-winner, But, despite the victory to beat all victories, Teel remains calm and collected. Perhaps his trademark as leader of this team has been precisely this character aspect - his uncanny determination.

Teel spoke to the media after Rutgers defeated the Cards.

Mike Teel:

They said he hadn't done it in a big game. So he did, carrying his squad to a big victory in front of a national audience at Pitt some weeks back. But then, the pundits argued, Raymell Rice wouldn't arrive unless he'd lead his Rutgers Football team to seemingly unlikely victories against the beasts of the Big East. So Rice went to work.

Rice added a pair of scores to his already glowing resume as he helped lead the Scarlet Knights to the program's ninth consecutive win. Rice is now 3rd in the nation in yards per game (148.2) and has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in all but 2 contests in 2006. Rice is also the team leader in points, good enough for the top ranking in the conference and placement as the No. 3 scorer in the country (90 points).
