The recruitment for four-star RB, Mason Robinson, has started to heat up as four perennial powers enter the picture. After completing a visit to Michigan State and having two others scheduled with Rutgers and Boston College, he only has two more left before completing his official visits.
When you are among the best players in the state of New Jersey, at some point some of the top programs in the nation will take a long look at you. For Mason Robinson, Michigan, Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Ohio State have asked for videotapes to evaluate him. All four of the teams appeared to be interested and appear to be ready to provide Robinson with an answer on an offer within the next week or so. Along with these schools, Iowa and Minnesota are high on his list and have already offered a scholarship. However, Robinson only has two visits remaining and possibly six schools fighting for a visit. He plans on waiting to hear back from his four top schools before making a decision on his final two visits.
For now, Robinson has visits scheduled to Rutgers (12/15) and Boston College (12/9). Currently, these schools are on the top of his list with Rutgers holding an edge over Boston College. Robinson stated that Rutgers holds this edge because "I have yet to visit Boston College".
For Boston College, they are recruiting him as a RB. Robinson stated that "they told me that I will have an opportunity to play early on special team and at RB. They are one of my favorites, I am looking forward to my visit".
Rutgers is also recruiting him as a RB. Robinson stated that "they said that Rice might be gone after his junior year. After he is gone, Young and I will be in the game at the same time with him at Kordell at RB and me at WR and visa-versa. I would also like have a chance to play kick returner and punt returner. I feel if I go there is will be a good fit. The only thing that had been an issue was the possibility of Coach Schiano leaving. Coach Schiano told me that he will be staying at Rutgers and he also said it on TV that he will be staying. I like the way that they play football. They really get after it. They play with a lot of excitement and brought that play back to New Jersey".
Among the four schools that have entered his recruitment, Michigan is the "X" factor. They were his childhood favorite school so an offer will influence his recruitment. Robinson stated that "they are only offering one RB and two DBs. The coach said that I will likely be recruited as a DB. But they will likely not take the lead from Rutgers but I do not want to say it will not happen."
Regarding a decision, Robinson would like to complete all of his official visits before making a decision. In order to expedite the completion of his visits, he will attempt to schedule midweek visits. A decision will be made before the end of the January.
