The army of students awaiting to obtain Rutgers Football/Louisville tickets earlier this year outside Rutgers Stadium will be one of the feel good stories surrounding the stellar 2006 Scarlet Knight season. However, the 2006 season has not yet come to an end as Rutgers Football has accepted an invitation to the inaugural Texas Bowl against Big 12 opponent Kansas State.
For the first time in school history, the Rutgers
Football Scarlet Knights will be involved in back-to-back post-season appearances. Rutgers has accepted an invitation from the Texas Bowl and will play in the inaugural Bowl at Reliant Stadium, in Houston, on December 28th. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The game is set to appear on the NFL network though numerous sources have reported ongoing efforts to bring the game to available northeast television markets.
Rutgers will face off against Kansas State (7-5, 4-4) of the Big 12.
"We're ecstatic about having Rutgers," Texas Bowl director David Brady said. "This is a top-15 team that was three yards away from a BCS game. We couldn't be happier to have them here. The fans of Houston will get a chance to see one of the top rushers in the country in Ray Rice and the National Coach of the Year, Greg Schiano."
Rutgers participated in the Insight Bowl last year versus the Arizona State Wildcats in a game that featured 1,211 total yards of offense, good enough for an NCAA Bowl Game record.
