Rutgers will host nine prospects on campus on the weekend of December 8th. Among these prospects is Rutgers commitment Keith Newell. Over the past few years, Rutgers had recruited smaller but fast and highly athletic defensive linemen. At 6'6"-280lbs, Newell represents the new style of defensive linemen for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Although Newell possesses good size, he also has good speed and feet.
Since the football season is over, he has been focusing on getting stronger and has been working hard in the weight room. The purpose of all of this hard work is to allow him to play as a true freshmen. All of the work has been paying off with him making great strides in the bench press and squat. During the new year, he will start to work out with his future teammate and fellow defensive lineman Wayne Thomas. Their close proximity to each other and the bond that they have developed during the recruiting process has drawn the two together.
Wayne Thomas is not been the only Rutgers prospect that Newell has been in contact with. He has had a number of conversations with Anthony Davis. The two discuss the recruiting process and Davis possibly joining Newell at Rutgers. However, Davis has stated that he does not yet know where he going to school. Although they have had a number of discussions, Newell stated that Davis is too hard to read on which school leads for his services.
SOR will interview Newell after this weekend's visit. Stay tuned.
