Video: Papa, a Sr. that Leaves His Mark

William "Papa" Beckford made the position change, moving to DE from his native LB spot, this past fall and locked up a spot opposite Jamaal Westerman. Papa provided critical pressure on opposing QBs this past season and as one of the departing Seniors leaves a legacy of leadership that the underclassmen will have to fill in starting with '07 and beyond.

William "Papa" Beckford came in with much hype out of Glades Central HS in Florida. An unfortunate ACL injury hurt his development as a LB affecting his lateral speed. However, Papa still is a freak of nature and runs in the 4.5 range. His forte this past season, as a speed-demon from the end position, became a name-sake of the Rutgers Defensive Line and overall defense. Under-sized, but fast as lightning with a knack for making plays.

After Rutgers' first ever Bowl Game win, Beckford talked about the continued improvement of the Defensive Line, who he feels is ready to take the next step to fill the void left by him and other departing Seniors, and his next step.
