Rashad White has a leader among 5 suitors

The common denominator for many of the best teams in the country is speed. Recruiters search the nation for the skilled players who possess the ability to beat defenses deep or reel off long runs. The common denominator for many of the best teams in the country is speed. Recruiters search the nation for the skilled players who possess the ability to beat defenses deep or reel off long runs. In the 2008 New Jersey recruiting class, Rashad White is among those few players who have the ability to make a difference with his speed. White has been timed in the 100-meters in 10.4, the 200-meters in 21.4, and 4.35 in the forty. The numbers that have really caught the interest of the college recruiters are his 2,400 yards rushing with 30 touchdowns.

Currently, White holds offers from Rutgers, Cincinnati, Syracuse, and Rutgers. These schools are not alone in their interest in White. Notre Dame, Boston College, Florida, Michigan State, and Maryland are among the schools showing the most interest.

Rutgers, Notre Dame, Boston College, Florida, and Michigan State have separated themselves enough to be called favorites. Of these programs, he is leaning towards Rutgers.

For White, Rutgers is "hometown". He states that "I like how they came up and I like the coaching staff especially Coach Rizzi. He keeps me focused". Rutgers would be a good fit because 'I would like my mother and family to see me play without doing a lot of traveling. I like how they come together as a team. I have been to a lot of games and to the locker room and have seen how excited they get. I would like to give back to my home state".

However, Rutgers has strong competition for White's services from Notre Dame. White likes the fact that "they are an independent and have the opportunity to play against a lot of good competition". Since Notre Dame is a private school, White feels that the size of the school will allow him to focus on his studies. The South Bend based school has not offered a scholarship yet and an offer will be "big...because it is a dream school". A scholarship offer might not be far away, the Notre Dame head coach, Charlie Weiss, will be visiting his school on January 22nd. If an offer is extended, the Irish will be tough to beat out for his services.

As far as a decision, White would like to make a decision by the end of the summer. In order to make this early decision, he will be visiting Rutgers on 2/10, Maryland on 2/28, and Notre Dame in March.
