"It was my only visit, but getting to know the coaches was what made me want to play for Rutgers. I had trips planned to UCF, Indiana, but I knew I wanted to be at Rutgers and when I committed, I cancelled those trips," stated Freeny.
"It was my first time up there. The school and New Jersey were real nice. I liked New York City a lot. The players were also very cool. I was hosted by Eric Foster and he was great."
Freeny played DE as a junior and tallied 12 sacks, but during his senior year he made the transition to OLB. For his performance this past fall, he was rewarded with 1st team All-County honors.
At Rutgers, he will specifically be brought in as a rush end.
"They like my athleticism. They told me that a senior was graduating and that if I worked real hard and developed, that I could crack the two deep. They rotate 7-8 guys, so I hope to be one of those players. They said I could also play some special teams."
Freeny will finish up his wrestling season and focus on weight training during the spring.
"It was through wrestling actually that I met Coach Rizzi. He came by my school and watched me in wrestling practice and we hit it off. But after this wrestling season ends, I want to work out hard this spring and just prepare for my freshman year at Rutgers."
