In June, Wayne Thomas started the 2007 Rutgers recruiting class off in style with his commitment. This 6'6"-280lb prospect will give Rutgers some size in the defensive front line. Thomas selected the Scarlet Knights over stated offers from Michigan State, Syracuse, and Purdue. Therefore, he is not just looking to get some playing time but compete for a starting position.
Like many future college signees, Thomas is looking forward to National Signing Day. He intends on holding a news conference at his school on Wednesday about 1:00PM, where he plans on fielding questions for reporters before signing his Letter of Intent.
However, Thomas views his signing of his Letter of Intent as only a small step in the process. He has been working out five days a week with a personal trainer and only looks to increase these efforts as summer camp approaches. As he states, the workouts have increased my strength and speed a lot. I'm at 280lbs and plan to report to camp between 285 and 290lbs". His strength has been stated as his speed off of the ball and ability to quickly read plays. These workouts will only improve these abilities. Similar to many of the players living in close proximity to the Rutgers campus, Thomas plans on working out at Rutgers' state-of-the-art facilities after signing his Letter of Intent.
He intents for his efforts to be rewarded with a starting assignment. As he stated, "I'm looking to start as a true freshmen and go to a bowl every year".
In order not to risk injury, he will not be playing in any all-star games.
Thomas has a message for the Rutgers fans. "If you like what you saw last year, we are about to kick it up a notch."
