Brains & Ability: Andrew Luck has the tools

QB Andrew Luck (6-4, 215 pounds) of Houston's Stratford High School is on track to becoming the valedictorian of his high school class. He should be the biggest Ivy League recruit in years. But unfortunately for the Ivy's, his athletic prowess has gotten the attention of every major college football program in the country.

QB Andrew Luck (6-4, 215 pounds) of Houston's Stratford High School is on track to becoming the valedictorian of his high school class. He should be the biggest Ivy League recruit in years. But unfortunately for the Ivy’s, his athletic prowess has gotten the attention of every major college football program in the country.

I recently had the opportunity to speak with Andrew and ask him a bit about himself and what he will be looking for as he narrows his college choices. Academics, specifically civil engineering, and a solid football program are the two biggest factors. “I am interested in becoming a civil engineer. I have always been fascinated by bridges and road ways and how structures relate to the earth”. Some of the better universities for civil engineering, who also have top football programs are: Stanford, Cal-Berkley, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Rutgers and Texas. Thus far, Andrew has already been offered by Cal. Stanford should be offering later t his month.

Andrew thus far is enjoying the recruiting process. “I enjoy the process, especially learning about what the different universities have to offer and meeting new and interesting people”.

Andrew is very dedicated in his off-season conditioning and spends a lot of time honing his quarterback skills and preparing for his upcoming springs season. “I am in the weight room six day a week, three days training upper body and three days training lower body. I am throwing about four times a week and trying to get my footwork better.”

Andrew’s parents have given him some sound advice in dealing with the recruiting process. “My parents are very humble people and they have always insisted that I be grateful for all or anything positive that happens in my life.”

After speaking with Andrew Luck, I have to say it is very refreshing to come in contact with such a polite, gracious, and respectful young man. I find myself already rooting for the success of Andrew Luck!
