Focus '08: DeVaughn Gordon

North Plainfield high school is not a school that colleges generally come to; looking for D-1 football prospects, but that will change in 2008, as one of the best pure athletes in the state of New Jersey may be right here in our laps.

DeVaugh Gordon a 6' 1" 175 pounder plays a multitude of positions on the high school level, some of those are wide receiver, where he posted numbers of 33 receptions for 450 yards with 3 touchdowns, and made honorable mention, as a kick returner he really shined, as his 4.5 speed made him one of the areas most dangerous players, racking up a amazing 4 touchdowns as a punt returner and another 3 as a kickoff man, as a defensiveback (where he is being recruited most) Gordon collected 47 tackles, 1 interception 1 forced fumble and 2 sacks.

As a junior, Gordon made 1st team all area 1st team all county and 1st team all conference for his work on the defensive side of the ball.

Teams are really starting to take notice, as a number of colleges have already started to fill up his mailbox, from Connecticut to Georgia. As of now only two teams, Boston College and Connecticut have put offers on the table.

Gordon lists Rutgers, Boston College and Connecticut as his early favorites, because they are all close to home and his family being able to see him play is important to him.

Gordon carries a GPA of 4.0 and is also looking at Yale and Princeton as possibility. He plans on majoring in business marketing and will take a number of visits to see what works best for him. He knows there is life after football and might explore the Ivy leagues.

Gordon has the strength to go along with the brains as he shows great power for a man his size, benching close to 300 pounds and a squat of over 400. Gordon plans include camping at Rutgers and Maryland this year.

Though Gordon lettered in basketball and track as a junior he might just concentrate on football and books his senior year
