This time last year, J.B. Fitzgerald was a defensive end who had a limited number of colleges interested in his services. During the football season, he was switched to LB and he quickly showed that LB was his natural position. After the switch, he registered 93 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and forced three fumbles. His on the field performance have enabled him to attract the attention of some of the best programs in the nation. His scholarship total seems to increase as the May evaluation period continues. Currently, he holds 18 scholarship offers. This number will likely hit 30 by the end of May.
Although Fitzgerald has approximately five months before he needs to reduce his list of schools and develop a possible official visits list, he intends on narrowing down his list by the end of May. He is still developing this list of schools but he is sure the below schools will be on that list.
- Rutgers - "Definitely a program that I am taking a look at. They provide
the advantage of playing in front of my family and friends but not a deciding
factor. The program is definitely on the rise. The vision and the work that
Coach Schiano and staff is doing is great. Last year, they were top 15. They
will likely be top 10, if not better. They are a program on the rise and they
will only get better. I know a lot of guys across the state who are heavy
Rutgers leans. It would be great to have them as teammates - it is not a deciding
factor but it will play a role".
- Michigan - "A great program. They have had a fantastic program for
years and years. They will be a team competing for a Big Ten and National
Championship every year. I am very close with their LB coach, who is my recruiting
coach. Their academics are top of the line. I will be taking an official visit
in June. It will be my father's third visit and my mother's first".
- Florida - "Great program. They are the National Champions...you can not get any better than that. My parents and I will be taking an unofficial visit on the third week of June. Coach Meyers and I have talked a number of times and he visited my school the day of the Elite combine. Coach Meyers is a great guy and leader. He was able to come in and win a National Championship. It is evidence of a great leader. He is a very intelligent and focused man".
During the summer, Fitzgerald will take unofficial visits to the schools on his top 7 list. Therefore, he will not participate in any camps. All of these visits will enable him to determine which schools he will take official visits.
His final decision will be made after he completes all five of his visits. For Fitzgerald, he will start taking official visits during his football season so he will have a chance to see the programs during gameday.
SOR will be providing you with his top 7 list, his unofficial and official visits, and his final decision. Stay tuned and refresh often.
