The Rutgers 2008 recruiting class got off to a good start with the commitments of Rashard White and Eric LeGrand. These two prospects are among the best players in the northeast and will likely attract other players to join them. StateofRutgers.com had the chance to catch up with Eric LeGrand to find out what he has been doing since he committed to the Scarlet Knights.
Although LeGrand has committed to Rutgers other schools are still attempting to recruit him. Some of the schools that have visited him during the May evaluation period were Louisville, Michigan State, Maryland, and Virginia. However, LeGrand's high school coach is not allowing him to talk to these coaches due to his commitment to the Scarlet Knights. LeGrand looks forward to the visits of the Rutgers coaches where he reaffirms his commitment each time.
During the off season, LeGrand's weight increased to 263lbs. Since this is almost 30lbs over his playing weight, one of his goals during the rest of the off season was to return back to his playing weight of 235lbs. His weight is currently 249lbs. Although he has loss weight, he has still been able to increase his strength. As a personal best, he bench pressed 355lbs five times. In addition to his increase in strength, his speed and agility has also improved. Although he has not been timed, he feels faster during his running workouts.
LeGrand is also spending time talking to other propects about Rutgers. Among the prospects that LeGrand talks to regularly are Scott Vallone, Dejuan Miller, Art Forst, and Brandon Smith. Rutgers fans should be happy to hear that all of these players have Rutgers in high regard. However, LeGrand stated that these prospects would likely wait to make a final decision.
Due to his busy schedule, LeGrand has not been able to visit the Rutgers campus since the Spring Game. However, he plans on attending the Rutgers football camp a couple of days to hang out with the players.
