Schiano Shootout to feature nearly 80 teams

Behind the electric play of then Sr. to-be Jeremy Tucker, Pope John XXIII HS (Sparta, NJ) bested all invitees to the Annual Greg Schiano Shootout, a competition featuring the top 7-on-7 HS skill teams in the region. Pope John will be back and so will 77 other teams all with one goal in mind - be the last one standing.

The Greg Schiano Shootout, named after Rutgers Football Head Coach, the National 2006 Coach of the Year, Greg Schiano, will be held on Saturday, June 23rd, on the campus of Rutgers University. The 2006 edition featured some electric play from speed freak Jeremy Tucker, who led his squad to victory versus Father Judge.

While many of last year's stars have gone on to bigger and better things, this year's version will prove to be just as competitive, if not more so. 77 HS teams from around the region will headline the 2007 Greg Schiano Shootout, with some squads boasting top regional, and in some cases national players. As always, the unique characteristic of such events isn't entirely about seeing the stars as much as having the opportunity to see stars emerge. Two years ago, for example, it was on this stage that Andres Morales, of Liberty HS, was first uncovered.

Some of the schools expected to be on hand for the competition follows below. SOR will be on hand to bring you back extensive coverage of the top players and teams, including new names to become familiar with, perhaps this year's version of Andres Morales.
