Bryce McClain: Recruiting Journal

As one of our features, Bryce McClain will be talking about his experiences as a college football prospect. In this segment, McClain talks about his experiences at the Penn State and Rutgers camps.

The Penn State camp was fun. It was more of a passing camp where most of it focused on the passing aspect of the game. Due to the design of my high school's defense, this caused me to line up at outside linebacker rather than defensive end. We were there for 2 days and over these 2 days we played games. After the first game, the camp staff took the campers on tours of the stadium and the facilities.

There were a lot of different teams at the camp from all over. Some of the teams were from Maryland, Alabama, Ohio, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Although it was really hot, the competition and the getting to know the other players made the camp fun.

After returning home from the Penn State camp, it was only a week before it was time to go to Rutgers for their camp. From July 24th through the 27th, I was at Rutgers University. All of the first day was registration. After completing registration, we got into our rooms, met our roommates, then went down to the stadium and were instructed in how to perform the 40-yard dash and broad jump. After the completing test, we went the field to take a group camp photo then it was back to our rooms to rest up for the next day.

It was now time for practice. It was hot, really hot. For the first practices, we did individual skill work for our given positions. I worked with the defensive ends. For the second practices, the coaches drilled us on many of the same skills from the first practice to refresh our memories of the things we learned earlier. For third practices, we had one-on-ones. This was my favorite part of the day. Although I liked the other practices, I really looked forward to the one-on-ones where I could show "my stuff".

I really liked the way that the Rutgers camp was ran. There were a lot of different college and high school coaches doing their part to make us better for our upcoming season. After I got home, I went on vacation to Florida.

During the coming weeks, I will be going to more camps all over Pennsylvania before my high school starts practice. Our first scrimmage is August 24th against Sayerville. Then we open our season with Bergen Catholic on September 8th at 7pm at Giants Stadium....BE THERE.
