Anthony Davis Showing Glimpses of Stardom

Jan. 6 will be a day that Rutgers fans will not soon forget. It was on that day that Rutgers made a statement in the recruiting world when RU Head Coach Greg Schiano got offensive line Anthony Davis to commit to the Scarlet Knights over Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, and USC.

Davis made his debut against Buffalo last week and played in a few different series throughout the game. The first No. 1 prospect in New Jersey to sign with Schiano looked solid at the guard position.

Zuttah praised Davis following the Buffalo victory and most within the program feel he is coming along fine in his first year. It appears that Davis will serve in the rotation this year at the right guard position. Davis is fine with transition and said he enjoys playing a new spot on the field.

"It was fun, it was a good experience," Davis said.

Davis has been watching film from his first game and been working on improving everyday he plays. Coach Schiano will continue to work to make sure that Davis sees playing time with a schedule that determines which series he will come in for.

As Davis prepares to become one of the seasoned leaders of the OL next year, the young OL is taking advantage of Rutgers' seasoned veterans this year, learning from Sosa and Zuttah, both of whom are preseason Big East selections by multiple news organizations.

"I talk to the older players and try to learn from them everyday," Davis said. "It is a really good learning experience."

Davis went to Piscataway High School and was a standout. Davis was a high school All-American and received over 50 scholarship offers. With the chance to go to any school to play football, Davis choice Rutgers in large part because of how good of an academic school it is.

"Its one of the top public schools in the country, if not the top," Davis said. "Football is on the rise here and in New Jersey."

Coach Schiano's philosophy has helped Davis improve. Davis credits Schiano's demand for a strong work ethic as a key to his development.

"I have learned to be a hard worker and do your 1/11th everyday," Davis said. "Do your job everyday."

Davis represents what the new Rutgers is. The Scarlet Knights are a team with a Heisman Trophy candidate in Ray Rice. They have multiple players that will be drafted in the upcoming draft and will be significant draft picks. RU can beat one of the best teams in the nation during primetime and now, Coach Schiano is starting to bring in the best players in the nation, by shoring up the fence at home in New Jersey.

New Jersey is a fertile area of college football talent and Coach Schiano will look to continue to build that fence around New Jersey. As for Davis, picking Rutgers really came down to developing.

"I wanted to stay home," Davis said. "It was better for me to grow as an individual, a player, and a man."
