McCalebb's HC talks about his star's verbal

4-Star RB Onterio McCalebb made a verbal commitment to Rutgers a few days ago. Since his commitment, he has been one of the most difficult players to get in contact with on the phone. Therefore, SOR has interviewed his head football coach Mike Hayde about McCalebb's pledge to the Scarlet Knights.

After an early visit to West Virginia, Onterio McCalebb declared his verbal commitment to West Virginia. However, Rich Rodriguez decided to accept the head coaching position at Michigan leaving the Mountaineer program with a head coach and players like McCalebb in limbo. On December 20th, McCalebb gave a verbal commitment to Rutgers giving the Scarlet Knights an impact player at RB.

The head coach of Fort Meade High School, Mike Hayde confirmed McCalebb by stating "During the break, I went away on vacation, I had not been down to Fort Meade in a while. Onterrio verbally committed to Rutgers, over the phone, after the change at West Virginia.I think it is a great decision. I felt Onterio should not go wrong with the four schools (Auburn, Clemson, West Virginia and Rutgers) that he was selecting from. The Rutgers program is a good one and has had success at the RB position". Coach Hayde also likes the selection by McCalebb because of their head coach Greg Schiano, as he states "Coach Schiano is one of the best in the business. As long as Schiano is there, the program will be good".

Like all of McCalebb's top four schools, Rutgers did a great job recruiting him. However, the relationship that McCalebb developed with Coach Dempsey (Demo) might have been one of the determining factors. As Coach Hayde states, "he has had a very good relationship with Coach Demo". He went on to say "They (Rutgers) is in the New York area and there is a lot of opportunity at the school. The educational environment, conference and the change of culture will be good for him".

McCaleb will likely still take his visit to Clemson on January 18th before traveling to Rutgers on January 25th.
