Dane Miller Gives RU Major Boost

"I commited Sunday night. I was just sitting down, watching the Super Bowl with my mother and girlfriend and we were talking about committing," stated Dane Miller, the versatile Rush-Henrietta SHS [Henrietta, NY] product. Although Miller stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 180-pounds, he brings impressive versatility to Coach Hill's Scarlet Knights.

"I commited Sunday night," stated Dane Miller, the versatile Rush-Henrietta SHS [Henrietta, NY] product. Miller selected the Rutgers Scarlet Knights over offers from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Providence and St. John's. Miller was also receiving interest from Syracuse, Villanova, and Texas. Despite significant interest that put Miller on the national recruiting scene he and those closest to him thought this would be the best time to put an end to his recruitment.

And the Scarlet Knights were the beneficiary of his final choice.

"I was just really comfortable with Coach Hill and Coach Carr. They've just treated me really well," stated Miller.

Though Rutgers has seen their share of struggles on the court this year, Miller is confident a turnaround is coming, and coming sooner rather than later.

"I think it's [i.e., the program] headed for good. When you think about Rutgers you're going to be thinking about them as one of the better teams in the Big East. Whenever a team is going to come into the RAC it's not going to be easy for them anymore."

Miller was able to showcase his talents this summer and it was his terrific on the court play that garnered him the scholarship offers he holds today. But what is it that makes Miller the player he is?

"I'm real versatile. I can play anywhere from the 1 to the 3. Or I can take a power forward off the dribble if I have to. But one of the things I love to do is to get my teammates involved. I love to pass the ball," continued Miller.

Despite his obvious skills, Miller remains grounded and concedes much work remains.

"With all the attention that started coming this summer, it was my girlfriend, my mom and my grandmother that have kept me real grounded. They're the ones that have made sure I continue to work hard."

Having now concluded his recruitment, and in turn given Coach Hill's '09 class an impressive start, Miller says that it's back to the books for him.

"I have to get back and make sure my grades are alright. Everything is good, I just gotta make sure everything continues well."

Miller, Rutgers' first commitment for the class of '09 is averaging 20.5 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 assists this year.
