Mike Meggett, 6-1 1/2, 208, 4.5, DB, RB , Fort Hamilton HS, Brooklyn NY
Mike has picked up offers from Vanderbilt, UConn, Buffalo and West Virginia. Rutgers has requested his transcripts which is often a sign of an impending offer. Maryland is also showing a lot of interest. The question with Rutgers appears to be the Knights need for a safety.
"I can't say right now. I have to wait for all my offers. I like Vanderbilt, they offered me first. I'd like the opportunity to play in the SEC."
"I have set up an visit with Vanderbilt for December 13, I have tentative visit for December 8th with UConn. I'll probably visit with West Virginia in January. If Rutgers offers I'd most likely take a visit there but they haven't offered as of yet. I'll probably be setting up a visit with Maryland. I am also getting a lot of interest from them, they just asked for another tape and I have been talking a lot with their coaches."
Fort Hamilton's season so far
"I am neck and neck with another player for player of the year in the PSAL. In NYC.com they have me ranking number three but that will change. I have been working hard and it is paying off. Getting my first offer took a lot of the stress off of me and I am hoping for more to come.
We only have 25 guys on the team but we are doing great. We are 7-1, ranked number one in the city with one more game to play. Out of 41 schools we are number one. We have a lot of quality guys. Guys who could play on any team and be stars. There are a lot of division one players in my school who don't get the recognition. We'll be in the playoffs. There is a 16 team, single elimination playoff and I am definitely looking forward to that."
Meggett out of Fort Hamilton HS is a 6-1, 204 lb safety, wide receiver with a 4.5 clocking in the forty yard dash. Last year at safety Mike had 81 solo tackles including 9 for loss. He had 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions including one he brought back 60 yards for a touchdown. At wide receiver last year his talent didn't show as Fort Hamilton focused on a running game and as Meggett got double coverage in every outing. That was due to his sophomore performance when he caught 38 passes for 640 yards and 7 touchdowns.
This year Mike has 4 carries for 40 yards including one touchdown and one two point conversion, he also has 15 receptions for 321 yards (21.4 ypc) and four touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Meggett has 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries and 72 tackles.
