Wilkes feeling the love from 3, remains open

Khalil Wilkes (6-foot-4 and 285-pounds), by way of St. Peter's Prep has been seeing increasing interest from a number of schools. Which schools are showing one of NJ's top linemen the most love, and from where does he believe an offer could be coming soon? Wilkes talks about this and his plans on future visits - come see what he had to say.

OL Khalil Wilkes has yet to receive an offer, but has been receiving interest from numerous programs. Northwestern, Virginia and RU have been showing the most and SOR caught up with the rising Junior to discuss his feelings on those schools.

Wilkes has been receiving attention from several schools and has started sending his game tapes to multiple programs.

Out of all the schools that are looking at the 6-foot-4 285 pound lineman, Rutgers, Virginia and Northwestern have been showing him the most interest.

"They are an up and coming program, my father went there and the academics are great," Wilkes said on Rutgers.

The Jersey City, N.J. resident went on an unofficial visit to Virginia in February, and had nothing but positive things to say about the Cavaliers' campus.

"I'm in love with the school," Wilkes said. "I like the scenery and it's a family [atmosphere] there."

Northwestern has been in contact with Wilkes on numerous occasions and it's the competition it faces within the conference along with the education he could receive there that makes the 2009 prospect interested in the program.

"I talked to coach Kevin Johns and emailed him also," he said. "They play in a great conference, the Big 10, I love their academics, and I could picture myself [there]."

With so many schools coming into the mix, Wilkes hasn't been able to narrow down a list of favorites.

"Not yet," he said. "I'm still receiving interest from several schools so everyone is even."

There's no set timetable for the St. Peter's Prep junior to make his decision, but said if a school gives him the right offer, he's theirs.

"It depends what schools offer me," Wilkes said. "If I fall in love with a school I will make my choice. But right now I'm not making a choice yet."

In what could get Wilkes to make his decision, there are three big factors.

"Academics, I'm thinking of becoming a business or communications major," he said. "Athletics with their football program and the environment."

Early playing time wouldn't be a major concern to Wilkes because he said he could use the bench time early on to improve his skills.

"I wouldn't mind being red shirted so I could get better," he said.

Wilkes isn't sure what schools he will go on an unofficial visit with in the future, but he does have an idea of who he will go down to watch practice.

"Virginia, Boston College, Northwestern and a few others for sure," he said.

While Wilkes hasn't received an offer yet, he thinks one will be coming from either Rutgers, Northwestern or Virginia after they evaluate his tapes.
