Former RU Standouts talk about RU's Pro Day

The last hurdle prior to the NFL's Draft Day behind them, several former Scarlet Knight standouts, including Ray Rice, Jeremy Zuttah, Mike Fladell, Jeremy Ito, and Pedro Sosa, talked about their future prospects while also looking back on their careers in Piscataway, New Jersey.

More than 20 NFL representatives were in attendance Wednesday afternoon hoping to catch a glimpse of several former Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Among the former RU standouts included

Jean Beljour, Marcus Daniels, Gaudhi DeSedas, Mike Fladell, Eric Foster, Ron Girault, Jeremy Ito, Brandon Renkart, Ray Rice, James Townsend and Jeremy Zuttah. Pedro Sosa was in attendance though he was unable to participate in the workout session. A couple of members from prior Scarlet Knight squads, most notably Quintero Frierson (2006 Senior) and Sameeh McDonald (2005 Senior) also participated and worked out in the hope of catching on at the next level.

Unlike other events involving Scarlet Knight football members, Rutgers Head Football Coach Greg Schiano did not actively participate, and was more of a sideline fan watching along with others that stopped by to take a glimpse such as family and friends of those athletes working out.

"I don't have much to do with it," Schiano said. "I talk to the coaches and scouts, and give them some background information. I'm a spectator, just here to watch and root for them," continued Coach Schiano.

Several Scarlet Knights had standout performances on Wednesday, impressing onlookers with their speed (e.g., Ron Girault's 4.46 40-yard dash), versatility (e.g., Ray Rice's tremendous showing in skill position drills, catching passes out of the backfield), and athleticism (e.g., James Townsend's impressive 41.5-inch vertical jump).  Not to be outdone by their skill counterparts, the offensive linemen also stood out, impressing during the individual drills.

At the conclusion of the event, SOR had the opportunity to catch up with several former members of the Scarlet Knights to hear their thoughts on the day, what the future may hold, and much more.
