Focus '08: Justin Blake

One local prospect that many colleges or fans may be unaware of is Piscataway HS standout Justin Blake. The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound Blake had an impressive Junior campaign and has started the spring season in fine fashion.

Justin Blake, by way of Piscataway HS [Piscataway, NJ], enjoyed a standout Junior season campaign racking up 63 total tackles, recording 6 interceptions, and registering a pair of forced fumbles from his Safety position. Playing both ways last season, Blake also reeled in 7 catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. A 4.5-second [in the 40-yard dash] prospect, Blake caught the eyes of SOR after garnering MVP honors as the top defensive back while participating at the Chuck Mound Football Challenge during mid-March.

Blake has yet to receive his first scholarship offer but is receiving interest from a number of schools.

"I have been hearing form Syracuse, Temple, Connecticut, LSU, and Nebraska. The schools that are showing me the most love at this time are Syracuse, Temple and Connecticut. I hear from the Syracuse coaches every day for the most part usually through e-mail. The Syracuse coaches seem to be willing to help me improve on and off the field," stated Blake.

Blake has not traveled to any Junior days due to his participation in varsity basketball (plays the point guard position and averaged 6 points and 5 assists per game), but did attend the most recent Rutgers scrimmage this past weekend along with teammate Aaron Hush.

While Blake is receiving attention from the majority of the Big East Conference, he states that recent interest courtesy of LSU has left a great impression on him. "I've gotten some letters from them That's just my dream school," stated Blake.

Blake plans on attending both the Nike Camp on May 10th at Penn State and the Combine formerly known as the Elite College Combine on May 8th. In addition, Blake has given some thought to possible summer camp destinations.

"I am thinking about attending the Syracuse camp along with the Connecticut and Temple camps," said Blake.
