Underwood Is Looking Forward To His Sr Season

Piscataway, N.J. - 2007 First Team All-Big East wide receiver Tiquan Underwood has emerged as one of the premiere receivers in the country. He's entering his final season in a Scarlet Knights uniform and just looking to take in the last of his spring practices.

"It's been great and it still is," Underwood said. "I'm just enjoying the ride, just riding the wave."

Coming off a 2007 campaign where he finished second in Rutgers' history with 1,100 yards and third in school history with 65 receptions, Underwood used the 2008 spring season as a time to refine his skills attempting to make himself an even more reliable target for Senior quarterback Mike Teel to throw to.

"Just being a more consistent receiver," he said. "At the receiver position you have to catch them more than you drop them, being a consistent guy that coach can hang his hat on."

Overall, the offense has had success over the course of the spring throwing the ball he said. Also, it has been receiving key contributions from an upperclassman who has "the best hands out of the whole receiving core," according to Underwood.

"The pass game looked pretty good this spring," he said. "Number five, [senior] Dennis Campbell, he emerged this spring, he's played excellent during spring ball."

"We're going to work on [the passing attack] over the summer and get ready to go."

What made last season a successful one for the Knights offense was the fact that Teel had a few weapons to throw allowing them to spread the ball out. Underwood said each receiver brings something different to the table and they will only continue to get better.

"Tim Brown is the speedster and Kenny Britt is the big guy that can go up and get it," Underwood said. "I'm just like the middle guy that goes in the middle of the field. As a core, I think we are pretty good and we're going to get better."

Following an 8-5 season, Underwood has high hopes for Rutgers and expects the team to step up and play to the level they should.

"There very high; my expectations this season are for our team to reach our potential," concluded Underwood.
