Rising JR Fortt Has Big Time Ability

Rising Junior LB Khairi Fortt (6'3 215) from Stamford HS in Connecticut is one of the more impressive physical specimens in the 2010 class. At a recent testing event, Khairi ran a sub 4.6 40-yard dash, and tallied over a 10-foot broad jump; he also is bench pressing 325 pounds and squatting in the 500 pound range.

The above numbers are from a growing young man that is only 15 years of age, plus his range on film, that will make him one of the more highly recruited players in the Northeast next year. Khairi's dad, Guy Fortt, took the time to share with us a bit about his son and the recruiting process thus far. "It is hard to not be biased, but Khairi is a great kid. He is a hard worker and is a very mature and well-rounded young man. He really pushes himself, whether it is in football, track, work outs, or school work. He sings in the church choir. He is a disciplined and accountable young man".

Fortt recently traveled down to Rutgers University and took in a practice session. "We loved it down at Rutgers. The practice was real intense and very organized. But what we were most impressed with was how they treated their fellow man. They really have a great family atmosphere and just give off a great vibe."

The coaches at Rutgers made a strong impression on Fortt. "We got to meet a good number of the coaches. We met Coach Hewitt and he seemed like a real cool guy. We had one teammate of Khairi's, a CB Carrington Beckford (6' 188) at practice, and he seemed pretty impressed with his size and personality. Coach Joe Susan showed us around and we connected well with him. From meeting him the first time, you can tell he is a good man. We also got to sit down and have a talk with Coach Schiano. He made us feel quite respected and wanted. We were really impressed with Coach Schiano. He is a great person and just made us feel very comfortable".

Fortt then traveled to Uconn this past Tuesday and took on the Huskies practice. "We went up there as a family. My wife, Khairi, and myself took that trip. It is our third time up there. We got to see the facilities again and saw them practice. Coach Lakatos is recruiting Khairi. We unfortunately did not get to speak to him much during the practice. The visit overall was OK".

Next up for Fortt will be to compete in the Big Time Football Showcase on May 8th. "It is a great opportunity for Khairi to compete against some of the top kids in the nation. I think he will do well. He is working hard and preparing hard for that event".

This summer, he is planning on camping at Uconn, and Boston College. He may camp at Rutgers. Khairi is also looking closely at Clemson, who has shown him a lot of attention early on.
