Lowery Talks About His Visit to RU

Antwan Lowery, considered one of the top defensive lineman prospects in the 2009 recruiting class, came out with his top five list of schools just a few days ago. Lowery talked to SOR about his list, where Rutgers stands and what schools he plans on visiting in the future.

Four-star prospect Antwan Lowery, out of a hotbed for producing top-notch high school football player Miami, Fl., just announced his top five favorite schools on April 18 in an interview with Scout.com.

The list consisted of hometown Miami, Rutgers, Florida, West Virginia and North Carolina State. Lowery said things remain the same with his favorite schools.

"Absolutely not," he said when asked if his favorite schools changed. "I have the same interest in the schools that I had before."

Rutgers is one of the schools he considers a favorite. Lowery was impressed with what the campus in Piscataway had to offer and said he could possibly see himself donning the scarlet uniform.

"I went up there and saw the campus, the people and it looked good," he said. "I could fit in there and call it home. They're a good football program."

The Christopher Columbus defensive tackle was in attendance for the Scarlet Knights spring game last Saturday. To Lowery, he saw a quality football game on both sides of the ball that really caught his eye.

"The spring game showed me a lot of promise and I think they‘re going to be one of the top programs," he said. "The game kicked off with highlights. The offense and defense was great. It was good football and I like that."

At 6-foot-3 300 pounds, Lowery was a terror for any offensive coordinator registering 75 tackles and three sacks his junior year as an interior lineman. The main influence in his life on and off the football field has been his brother, Rutgers' sophomore linebacker Antonio Lowery.

"I've learned from him since watching him in Pop Warner," Lowery said on his brother. "His attitude made me want to play. He told me to go hard every play. The way he plays is the only way I know how to play. He told me to work out, train hard and go hard."

After his senior season is when Lowery said he will make his final decision because he wants to go on his official visits. While nothing is set up, he does want to take official visits to Rutgers, Florida and Miami. He said "probably" with LSU and said USC is "definitely one of his tops" and would like to check them out.

Antwan Lowery is ranked as the No. 9 defensive tackle in Scout.com's 2009 High School Rankings.
