Hayward Pays RU a Visit for Spring Game

Wide receiver Aaron Hayward from Carneys Point, N.J. has one offer in his possession from Rutgers. The four star prospect attended a Scarlet Knights function recently where he got to socialize with team personnel and recruits. Come see what he had to say about that and his recruiting thus far.

Last Tuesday, four star wide receiver Aaron Hayward traveled to Piscataway, N.J. for a Rutgers team barbeque.

"It was pretty awesome," Hayward said of his experience. "The only thing was I had to pay for my meal."

At the Knights event, Hayward got a chance to talk with recent Rutgers recruits Tom Savage, and Jamal Wilson. The Penns Grove High School receiver has gotten a chance to become close with Savage through various functions held by the college.

"We talk everyday," Hayward said. "We send texts, emails and talk on the phone."

Current Knights also met with Hayward such as wide receiver Kenny Britt and defensive back Courtney Greene. He's pretty close with wide receiver Tiquan Underwood who's hometown is about a half-hour away from Hayward's.

"Tiquan's town is about 35 minutes from where I live," Hayward said. "I have his number so we get to talk about football and life in general."

He was also able to chat with some of the members of the coaching staff such as Head Coach Greg Schiano, Wide Receivers Coach Kirk Ciarrocca, Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach John McNulty and Recruiting Coordinator/ Tight Ends Coach Joe Susan.

In a junior season where he was First Team All-Group and All-County, Hayward ran for 1,363 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also had 162 yards receiving and three touchdowns as a receiver and returned a punt for a touchdown. One defense, he recorded 48 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He said he wouldn't mind playing either side of the ball, but if he had a choice, he would go with being a wide-out.

"Not really, wherever they want to play me," Hayward said. "I would like to play wide receiver because if the ball is in my hands, I feel I can do something with it."

In the near future, he plans on visiting Virginia, Iowa and Maryland. Hayward also said his team will be going to a summer camp at Boston College and he plans on visiting Penn State in the next "month to month in a half."

Late June, early July is the timetable for when Hayward plans on making his final decision.
