Bonadies Will Be Hitting the Camp Circuit

For the 2009 class, the metro area appears to have its fair share of linemen. While several of them hold multiple offers from BCS schools, some still covet that initial offer. Among them is Joe Bonadies, a standout offensive lineman from Palisades Park H.S in New Jersey. SOR had a chance to discuss his recruitment along with his plans for the summer.

Joe Bonadies started to make a name for himself by winning the best offensive lineman award at the Chuck Mound Challenge held at Giant Stadium, earlier this spring. He followed up it with a solid performance at the BigTime Showcase. During those events, he lined up both at guard and tackle which is a little of a change for this 6'4"-270lb prospect. At his high school, he plays center. This versatility will help Bonadies as he looks to secure a college scholarship.

Some of the schools who have shown the most interest are Rutgers, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, and Vanderbilt. In order to provide these schools with a closer look at his abilities, he plans on camping at many of them. Rutgers, Virginia and Pittsburgh are definite camp destinations, while Connecticut, Syracuse, and Vanderbilt are currently listed as probable.

Of the above mentioned schools, Bonadies discussed three at length:

Rutgers - "I like them a great deal. They have great facilities. I really like coach Flood and coach Fraser. On a visit, I was able to speak with coach Schiano who seemed like a coach I'd like to play under. Another, plus is the academic reputation of the football team. I know they got a high ranking for doing well academically, which says a lot about the system that Coach Schiano is running. It's close to home, which is nice because my parents would be able to come to all the home games".

"They are very interested but they just want to see me move around a little in camp".

Pittsburgh - "I was able to visit Pitt for a spring practice in, I think, march. I didn't get to see the campus but I got a real good feel for the city. I felt very comfortable there. They have great facilities as well because they share with the Steelers. Also, Pitt should be a very good football team. They've had great recruiting classes and they have a lot of potential."

"Coach Hafley is recruiting me from Pitt and he said I'm one of their top OL prospects. He also said they haven't offered many OL (only two i think) because coach Wise likes to see his linemen in camp and work with them."

Connecticut - "I've visited UConn a bunch of times. They've been recruiting me since I started getting letters my sophomore year. They have great academics and amazing facilities. Their weight room and practice field is definitely the nicest I've seen. Coach Lakatos has wanted to offer me for a while, but he doesn't have the final say. They like me a lot and want to see me in camp."

We will be tracking Bonadie's recruitment and providing you with his status along with all of the prospects in the State of Rutgers. Stay tuned!
