Smith gets the one he's been waiting for

The last time SOR spoke to Abdul Smith [Perkiomen School, Pennsburg, PA], the Garden State stud stood at 20 scholarship offers. Standing at 6-feet and 1/4" and 185-pounds, Smith now holds 22 scholarship offers, including one that he had been waiting for.

"I talked to Coach Schiano earlier this afternoon [i.e., Thursday] for about a half an hour. We talked about where they see me playing. The problem was that they [i.e., Rutgers] only saw me play as a Safety [Smith did not play CB during his Junior season, only Safety], but I'm getting recruited mostly as a CB. I told Coach Schiano that CB is probably where I would like to wind up playing," stated Abdul Smith, who has now reached 22 offers.

With an additional offer from Buffalo making offer number 21, and several more likely on their way, the two dozen threshold will most certainly be reached by the end of the current month.

"Probably by the end of the month toward the beginning of July, I will start to narrow things down," continued Smith, one of the most coveted Garden State prospects for the current class.

Smith, true to his word, will be participating in only 1 camp this month. He had earlier told SOR that should Rutgers come through, he'd make sure to be there, and sure enough, he will be.

"I will be going up to camp on June 23rd, for one day," stated Smith.

Rutgers has now made it clear that they see the CB spot in Smith's future, a position that will see depletion following the graduation of Jason McCourty after the completion of the following season.

"Rutgers is up there now. Especially because they're building a winning tradition up there," concluded Smith.
