The setup The Knights' 19 graduating seniors get a chance to do something only one departing Rutgers class has managed since 1994: Win in their home finale. They're also running out of chances to finally shed a Big East losing streak that is now at 20 games, with Temple and the season-ending game at Boston College marking the last opportunities for Rutgers to avoid carrying that streak over to next year.
Rutgers matchup with Temple
In a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately age, Schiano faces one of the tightest spots of his already incredibly tough two-year Rutgers career. Even as his team has stuttered - and occasionally been stomped - to a 1-8 mark, he has been buoyed by the progress he sees internally in the program. Still, on the outside, the fans, the boosters, and most importantly, the recruits such as Sosa apparently want more to distinguish beyond that win-loss mark. But without a couple notches in the victory column to close the season, convincing people of development becomes that more arduous. "So much in building a program," Schiano had to concede, "is momentum."

PISCATAWAY -- There's no ax, boot, bucket or bell at stake. And as far as trophies go, drums and jugs and spittoons are best left for other college football rivalries. But still, you can't say that the Rutgers-Temple game has not been one of the better matchups in the Big East Conference over the years. The schools meet again today at 3:30 p.m. at Rutgers Stadium (CN8), and if they had to give out some sort of a trophy to the winner, maybe it should be a bed of nails in honor of the fans who have gone through sheer torture rooting for these hard-luck programs.
Rutgers hopes to end slide - Courier News
The Temple football team has experienced the challenges of facing top-rated Miami and No. 22 Pittsburgh, and the Owls know what it's like to play at such hostile places as South Carolina and Virginia Tech. On Saturday, Temple will visit one-win Rutgers for a Big East Conference outing that is just as daunting in its own way.
