Aboushi: "They're at the top of my list"

As first reported on StateofRutgers.com, immediately after the conclusion of the Big Man Academy held last week in Piscataway, NJ, Xaverian HS OL Oday Aboushi's impressive performance earned him his third scholarship offer: the latest is coming from Rutgers. SOR caught up with Aboushi to discuss his latest offer, camping details and much more.

StateofRutgers.com [SOR] first introduced fans to Oday Aboushi very early this past spring. SOR has been singing the praises of the Xaverian HS offensive lineman, an agile, strong, and fleet-footed young man with a matching impressive character that has since earned a trio of written BCS offers. Iowa and Maryland were the first to offer and most recently, Rutgers extended a scholarship.

SOR recently caught up with the rising Senior to discuss his latest offer, get his thoughts on the school extending it, and the very latest going on in his recruitment.

"After Coach Schiano talked to us [as a group] after the camp, Coach Susan came by and told me that Coach Schiano wanted to meet with me individually. At that point I knew he was going to offer me," stated Aboushi.

"I had the opportunity to meet the whole staff from Rutgers within three minutes. We talked about some of the things going into a college decision, what they're looking for in a student-athlete."

"I told them that I am so grateful for the opportunity. Rutgers is a great place, they have great academics and play great football. I really just wanted to jump up and yell, I was so excited about the offer," continued Aboushi.

Indeed, the affable Aboushi had been waiting for a Rutgers offer for some time. However, the Rutgers staff had not yet had the opportunity to see the Empire State standout in action. Aboushi's performance at the Big Man Academy left no doubt as to the sort of football player he can be.

With the Rutgers offer in hand, where does Aboushi stand as of this moment?

"They're [i.e., Rutgers] at the top of my list as of now. I just don't want to rush into anything. I want to make sure the decision that I make is the right one. But every time I've been to Rutgers, I've felt really comfortable."

Aboushi is being courted by a number of additional schools. He plans on taking visits to Boston College for their camp, and Virginia. Previous plans had indicated that a two-day trip to Michigan was a certainty as well, but these plans may or may not hold. "I was planning on camping the last two days a Michigan but I'm not sure now. Maybe I will."

One school that has had success recruiting the entire nation is making an effort to get into the mix for Aboushi's eventual signature.

"Notre Dame called [during the early eval. period] and told me that they are very interested in recruting me. It's really nice to get noticed by a big school with such a tradition like that," said Aboushi.

In the meantime, Aboushi is currently at Maryland for their camp this weekend, and will follow that up with trips to BC and UVA, and possibly, to Michigan.
