RU AD Bob Mulcahy Discusses Stadium Expansion

Phase I (premium seating) of the current Rutgers Stadium expansion is well underway, with completion expected prior to opening day for the contest versus Fresno State. Phase II has also begun, though that part of the project will not be complete until August 2009. Rutgers Athletic Director Bob Mulcahy discussed various aspects of the expansion project with the media Wednesday afternoon.

After selling out every single home game dating back to Pandemonium in Piscataway [11/9/2006], the Rutgers Football waiting list has swelled to over 11,000. Nearly 350,000 college football fans have turned the turnstiles of Rutgers Stadium during the past two seasons - with interest and excitement on a continual upswing, stadium expansion will provide for 1,000 mezzanine-level seats, ready for use versus Fresno State on September 1, 2008, and an additional 13,000 seats that will close out the open, South, endzone before the opening contest of the following season.

Rutgers Athletic Director Bob Mulcahy met with the media Wednewsday afternoon and discussed various aspects of the stadium expansion project.

"You make business decisions based upon the interest and the support, and when we had that waiting list, if we did not act on that, there are enough entertainment options that people would go other places and I did not want to lose that opportunity. You get these opportunities once. Since 1869 we haven't had that opportunity at Rutgers when it comes to football," stated Mulcahy.
