Wilkes Names His Favorites

Khalil Wilkes is a true student-athlete, who carries a better than 3.2 GPA and was named first-team all-state as a junior. His abilities on the football field and in the class room helped Wilkes obtained more than 15 scholarship offers from schools in the PAC-10, Big East, SEC and ACC. Now that he has had a chance to make a number of unofficial visits, he now has a list of four favorites.

Khalil Wilkes' recruitment started out slow but it quickly heated up as he gathered more than 15 scholarship offers in a little over a month. Over the last three weeks, Wilkes has taken unofficial visits to Stanford, Wake Forest, and California. These visits have helped him to name his top four schools as Rutgers, Stanford, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh with no leader.

His recent trips started with a trip to Stanford. Wilkes was toured around campus by Stanford commitment Shayne Skov and starting center Alex Fletcher. "The campus is beautiful. It is the best campus I have seen. There is a lot around the city of San Francisco. It is good to have a major city so close". The campus coupled with the outstanding academics help to have the visit exceed his expectations.

From Stanford, he took the short trip to the campus of the University of California where he found the big campus to be beautiful. The natural surroundings of the campus made Wilkes feel at home. Due to a scheduling conflict, the head coach and OL coaches were not available during his visit. But this matter did not stop Wilkes from being impressed.

Wilkes' next trip was to Wake Forest. During his visit, he spent a lot of time with the Demon Deacon's OL coach and incoming freshman Joe Looney. They left him impressed by the OL blocking scheme particularly the similarity to his high school's scheme. He also likes how they have maximized the abilities of their recruits to build one of the best teams in the ACC. "It is a great testimonial to the coaches how they are winning without getting a lot of 5 star players". He also likes the school's proximity to Salem which he found to be a great city. Like Stanford, the visit exceeded his expectations.

Earlier in the summer, he made a visit to his home state school, Rutgers, and plans to make another unofficial visit before the end of the summer. The Scarlet Knights have always been among his favorites and this fact has not changed. He likes the academics and the recent success. Rutgers recent recruiting success has not been lost on him. "The recruiting class is good and it would be great to play with Anthony Davis and Mark Brazinski but it will not be the main reason why I will select any school".

Although Wilkes initially expected to make a decision before the start of the football season, his latest visits have impacted his decision making process. He will likely now take a few official visits before making a final decision. Along with the above schools, he will be considering Pitt, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and UCLA.
